for patients
What is a "surgical assistant"
A medical surgical assistant is a fully qualified doctor who has been requested by your surgeon to assist with your procedure.
They provide a second set of experienced hands to maximise safety and efficiency.
Your surgeon is in charge of your operation and the surgical assistant will work with all protocols and instructions given by your surgeon.
Your surgical assistant has also received accreditation with the hospital you are having your procedure at.
Informed financial consent
You will be contacted by Surgical Assistants Group Victoria prior to your surgery with information about who your surgical assistant is, what the fees will likely be, and if there will be an “out of pocket” fee for your upcoming procedure.
We make every effort to advise patients prior to their date of surgery about any fees they may be charged for their surgical assistant, however there are instances where this is not practicable.
If you have any questions about our fees policy or your Informed Financial Consent information please contact us and one of our team will be happy to answer any of your queries.
